Whether it’s Christmas, birthdays or even an anniversary, gifts are a great way to make someone’s day even more special. For car lovers, you’ll no doubt be looking for something that fits in with their favourite interest, activity and topic of conversation.
In this post, we’ll run through five of the best gifts for car lovers in your life.
1. Fuel candle
The smell of fuel is enough to put many people off their food. Not car lovers, who invariably crave that unique fuel aroma. What better gift for them than a fuel-scented candle?
Complete with an oil-barrel inspired design, fuel candles provide a hint of fuel, smoke and metallic aromas mixed with more universally appreciated scents like pine. You never know – the subtle blend of scents might bring you around to the unique smell too.
2. Key finder
There’s nothing worse than losing your car keys. That’s even harder for people who love nothing more than getting behind the wheel. Fortunately, there are now a range of easy-to-use car key finders on the market.
Most work the same, allowing you to connect to the finder using your phone’s Bluetooth, triggering a loud alarm on the device, which is conveniently connected to your car keys.
3. Car driving experience
From the old classics with stiff gears to the souped-up tech wonders with gadgets on the dash – car lovers can usually appreciate almost any set of wheels. But there are some cars that are simply in a league of their own.
Driving experience days offer the chance to get behind the wheel of the most incredible cars, without the lifetime of saving up that would normally be required. Supercar Ferraris, Bond-inspired Aston Martins or even a ride in the Batmobile – it’s simply a choice of which they would love the most.
4. Build your own sets
Some days just aren’t fit for getting out on the road. Or perhaps they’re waiting on a part for the project in their garage. Whatever the case, a build your own set is a great gift to keep car lovers busy and entertained for hours on end.
Build your own Haynes V8 engine complete with a Haynes instruction manual, almost 300 parts and authentic recorded V8 sounds. Or put together a stylish Vintage Grand Prix Car, perfect for the desk or display cabinet once it’s finished.
5. A new car…
Want to really blow away the car lover in your life? The ultimate gift is without a doubt a new car. It could be a big birthday for your significant other. Or maybe you want to properly reward your child for passing their test.
Thankfully, it’s far more affordable than you might think. With My Car Credit, you can spread the cost of your incredible gift with hassle-free car finance. Comparing over 25 trusted lenders, we’ll make sure you get a great deal that’s tailored to your needs. Then it’s simply a case of planning how you tell them….

Some accessories for your car improve the quality of your journey, others can help you out if you get stuck in a tight spot. With the days drawing shorter and the temperatures dropping lower, there’s never been a better time to consider both. Here’s a rundown of our favourite autumn accessories for your car to keep your journeys both enjoyable and safe.
1. Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
Perhaps it’s among the less glamorous items on this list, but this contraption to help you gauge the pressure of your tyres can be invaluable in autumn. That’s because reductions in temperature can have a significant impact upon tyre pressure, thus affecting your grip on the road and your control over the vehicle.
3. Wireless phone charger
This handy little gizmo might seem like car tech from the future – but the future is already here, baby. Forget about bothersome wires getting in the way of the gearstick with this ingenious contraption that can clip onto your air vents and provide both power and a safe sticking place for your phone while on the move.
3. Sunglasses
We know what you’re thinking – surely there must be some mistake? Sunglasses are just for summer, right? Wrong! While there may be less sunshine during autumn and winter, the fact that the sun tends to hang lower in the sky means that it can generate more glare for those behind the wheel… which is why sunglasses are still important.
4. Jump starter
This nifty device really comes into its own as the nights draw in. Colder temperatures can increase the likelihood of your engine needing a little encouragement to get going, which is exactly what this gadget offers.
Make sure you’re autumn-ready
These autumnal accessories will make sure you’re prepared for everything autumn can throw at you on the roads. But that’s no use if your car is on its last legs. At My Car Credit, we make it easy to find finance for a new ride without the usual delays and hassle. Calculate car finance and then apply online for a clear outline of the cost of taking out car finance with My Car Credit.

Britain's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has announced it will ban certain commission models that give car finance dealers an incentive to sell more expensive credit plans to customers.
The move, which takes effect from January 28th, 2021, is expected to save consumers up to £200 on their contract loans, amounting to approximately 6% of their total costs. However, some people could benefit even further, with financial experts estimating an incredible £165 million in annual savings.
Long overdue
For many, including Debt Adviser and Author Sara Williams, the ban has been long overdue. In an interview with the BBC, she said: “The interest rate should reflect the risk that the lender is taking, not how much a car salesman thinks you will pay.”
The problem with the current scheme is painfully visible – the higher the interest rate, the higher the commission, which effectively incentivises dealers to charge fees which are inconsistent with the customer’s credit rating. In their public inquiry, the FCA found that the extensive use of this type of commission encourages dealers to act against the customer’s best interests.
Giving a statement on the ban, the FCA’s Interim Chief Executive, Christopher Woolard, said: “By banning this type of commission, where brokers are rewarded for charging consumers higher rates, we will increase competition and protect consumers”.
He goes on to say: “The FCA will also make changes to the way in which customers are told about the commission they are paying to ensure that they receive more relevant information. These disclosure changes apply to many types of credit brokers and not just those selling motor finance.”
A welcome change
Here at My Car Credit, we welcome the news of a ban on commission-based interest. While some car finance companies have taken advantage of the existing loopholes, we’ve always strived to deliver fairer interest rates to consumers.
We set interest rates on credit score-based pricing, which delivers the best outcome based on the customer’s credit profile rather than linked to commission or profit. In turn, consumers can rest assured they’ll always receive the most favourable deal possible from our large panel of lenders.
What’s more, Evolution Funding, the company behind My Car Credit, has a personal interest in industry transparency. Our CEO, Lee Streets, is the sole representative for motor finance on the FCA Smaller Business Practitioner Panel. Working closely with the regulator, he strives to implement and maintain impeccable practices within the sector.
Are you looking for fairer finance?
My Car Credit’s car finance application process is one of the simplest around, and we’re constantly told how fast, stress-free and enjoyable we make the car buying journey for our customers.
Most importantly, we give you an accurate online decision, including your exact rate and monthly payments, based on your details and credit profile. Crucially, we’ll never use a commission-based model to decide your interest rates.
To find out how we can help you, give us a call on 01246 458 810 or drop us an email at enquiries@mycarcredit.co.uk. One of our knowledgeable team members will get back to you as soon as possible.

With more complications heading abroad, holidays in the UK are set to become more popular than ever. The Great British staycation is a foolproof option for families and individuals alike, and best of all you don’t need to fly. That’s even better if you love a drive, with an abundance of great UK road trips on offer.
Whether you’re making your way around the Scottish Highlands or through the intertwined waterways of the Lake District, Great Britain has plenty to offer car-enthusiasts who love nothing better than hitting the open road.
While America’s Route 66 might be more famed, you’ll soon fall in love with the UK’s roads once you realise everything they have to offer. In this post, we’ll look at six unmissable UK road trips that are every bit as exciting and beautiful as their foreign counterparts.
1. North Coast 500
Duncansby Stacks, Scotland. Photo credit: Colin Horn
The North Coast 500 stretches over 800km across Scotland, taking in some of the most breathtaking pieces of road, coastline, and scenery along the way. If you manage to complete all 500 miles, you’ll witness everything from gothic and decadent ruins that are extremely well-preserved to historic castles and islands that are barely inhabited.
What makes the North Coast 500 one of the UK’s greatest road trips, aside from the sandy, shingle beaches, is the winding, single-track roads that never seem to end. Whether you’re a driving novice or self-proclaimed pro, these routes are certainly on the challenging side, which provides plenty of excitement.
Surrounded by lochs and the Applecross Peninsula, you’ll barely recognise that you’re in Britain. The isolated sights and attractions are a far cry from the densely populated cities, making this one of the most extraordinary UK road trips.
2. The Atlantic Highway
The Atlantic Highway is one of the most notorious stretches of tarmac in the UK, situated in the famed southwest coast. Among many other jewels, the Atlantic Highway runs for miles across the Devon and Cornish coastlines. It takes in a host of views, but the A39 offers far more than a glimpse of surfers trying to catch the waves.
As the road swerves inland, you’ll leave the dunes and come upon the barley fields that grow metres tall. Plus, you’re only a short drive away from Exmoor, an incredible national park with hefty hikes and stunning wildlife. If that’s not your thing, continue along the A39 until you hit Newquay, where there are tonnes of bars and restaurants.
3. The Black Mountain Pass
Wales is a beautiful part of the United Kingdom, and the Black Mountain Pass road trip best encapsulates its awe-inspiring vibe. Although it’s not a particularly long drive – easily accomplished in a day – the steep 1,600ft climb to the top of the pass is thrilling, so much so that Top Gear has filmed numerous videos there over the years.
It’s not hard to see why, when you reach the peak and gaze upon the 360-degree view of the Brecon Beacons below. You’d be forgiven for believing you were in the French or Swiss Alps! Car-wise, the roads are perfect, twisting and turning as you climb through the clouds.
4. The North York Moors
The UK has plenty of national parks to lean on. You can’t go wrong if you choose a road trip in one of the ten on offer. However, with the likes of Exmoor and the Lake District so popular, the North York Moors often goes under the radar. Sure, the area is more isolated and less commercial, making it awkward for families, but the roads are picture-perfect for car-lovers.
Throughout the majority of the national park, the single-track roads are tight and winding, allowing motorists to press on the accelerator and open up the engine. You can take the scenic A169 route to extend your trip over two days and take in rural farm towns and market villages.
5. The Causeway Coastal Circuit

One of Northern Ireland most breath-taking drives, the Causeway coastal route lies between Belfast and Derry. It’s almost 200km each way and is packed with tiny villages that provide visitors with an authentic Irish experience.
Of course, the real draw is the Giant’s Causeway, an area of coast that’s home to thousands of columns that look as if they’ve been crafted by the mythical creatures from which it takes its name. After you’ve witnessed the spectacular basalt columns in the Atlantic Ocean, you can continue on to the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge, Dunluce Castle, and the Glens of Antrim.
Whiskey-lovers can sample a tipple at the Old Bushmills Distillery, the oldest licensed distillery in the world that has been operating since the 17th century.
6. The Peak District

The Peaks is one of the most loved regions in the whole of the UK, making it an excellent option for a road trip. Aside from the many humble pubs that serve strong beer and quality food, the high mountain passes and viaducts offer unrivalled views of the surrounding regions.
Whether you’re 510m above sea level on Snake Pass or driving over Derwent dam and reservoir, you’ll fall in love with Northern Derbyshire and want to explore every inch. Anyone who wants to take a break from driving can hop in the Derwent Valley cable car and get a glimpse of the Peak District’s majestic natural beauty from above.

Evolution Funding, the largest motor finance broker in the UK, has published record online car finance applications, boosting its year-on-year average by 95%. The sharp incline for car finance companies is believed to be due to the impact of COVID-19, with one in four motorists saying they are prepared to buy a car online without seeing it first*.
The figures are great news for car finance firms who were expected to be hit hard by the impacts of the latest global health pandemic. However, as the statistics highlight, consumers appear more than willing to apply to serve themselves online before completing the final details in-person.
Evolution group sales director, Chris Coverdale, believes that this kind of trading will “become the norm as social distancing measures continue and consumer behaviour adapts.” Evolution’s online proposals as a percentage of overall proposals was 32%, compared to 21% in 2019**.
What led to the switch?
While the Coronavirus pandemic has accelerated the growth of online finance applications for car finance companies, it isn’t the only factor to affect the sector.
Ian Plummer, commercial director of Auto Trader, confirmed that “there’s been a broad digital acceleration from all parts of the automotive landscape.” Still, the tools were already in place, with Evolution Funding reporting a 27% increase in proposals through their online finance calculator.
Also, the Financial Conduct Authority confirmed in April that the payment holiday for finance and lease customers would be extended by three months.
With the car finance industry frozen since the start of the lockdown, and only recently reopening, call volumes have skyrocketed by 200% as shoppers and existing customers seek assurances in unpredictable times.
Of course, the effects of COVID-19 are still visible. Only 145,377 new car registrations were recorded in June 2020, a 35% decrease from the previous year.

While some countries begin to open their borders, most remain shut or subject to restrictions that promise to make travelling a far less relaxing affair.
Unfortunately, holiday-goers can expect much more than lengthy check-in queues, mandatory face masks and temperature scans. Travel experts also anticipate an increase in ticket prices while airlines get back on their feet.
However, it's not all doom and gloom. Perhaps, in a socially distanced post-COVID-19 world, we simply need to reimagine the holiday experience by skipping trips and opting for UK staycations instead. As well as saving on stress, exploring the beauty on your doorstep is a great way to support local businesses that have been devastated by the lockdown.
To help you choose the right destination, we’ve compiled a list of the best staycations across the UK.
North West of England
1. Cumbria
Predominantly rural and framed by rugged mountains, awe-inspiring lakes and undisturbed coastlines, Cumbria is the perfect location to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Nature lovers will be in their element as the county possesses some of the UK’s most breath-taking areas of natural beauty, including the Lake District (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), Eden Valley and part of the North Pennines.
The Lake District, in particular, provides a plethora of activities for adventure aficionados. The glacial pools and fell peaks are perfect for abseiling, mountain biking, bush-craft, archery and more.
2. Blackpool
Gaudy, glitzy and great fun, Blackpool epitomises the traditional UK staycation and, with an excess of award-winning attractions, there’s something to entertain the whole family.
Thrill-seekers can enjoy the Blackpool Tower Dungeons or iconic Pleasure Beach, which stays true to its roots with vintage wooden roller coasters, winding promenades and glamorous shows featuring plenty of feather boas. For something less adrenaline-spiking, there’s SEALIFE, Blackpool Zoo or the world-famous Blackpool Tower.
East of England
3. Norfolk
With an abundance of beautiful countryside, market towns and seaside resorts, Norfolk is the best choice for longer staycations.
Take your time as you explore 90 miles of flawless coastline and internationally famous nature reserves including Broads National Park, often described as “England’s watery jewel”. Thanks to the Broads’ open network of waterways, rivers and lakes, you can navigate the landscape by boat while enjoying the company of cranes, Kingfishers and otters.
After drinking in the region’s scenic delights, head to Great Yarmouth or Cromer for some of the country’s most delicious fish and chips.
4. Cambridgeshire
Cambridgeshire combines wetlands, cathedral towns and medieval markets with some of the best restaurant, shopping and cultural experiences in the UK. When visiting, most people choose accommodation in Cambridge itself, which is an excellent base for exploring the city as well as the surrounding areas.
The choice of activities on offer is indulgent – art galleries, perhaps one of the best theatre scenes in the country, live music every night and several Michelin star restaurants. Plus, there’s an established festival scene which includes the Cambridge Folk Festival and Strawberry Fair.
Oh, and there’s punting – lots and lots of punting.
South West of England
5. Cornwall
Cornwall is proof you don’t need to travel to far-flung locations to experience something otherworldly. In fact, the county’s beaches are unrivalled for their beauty, standing their own against France’s Île de Porquerolles and Italy’s Cala Tonnarella.
Perranporth and Godrevy on the north coast are surfing havens while the south coast offers more favourable conditions for sailing. Romantics might prefer the secluded beaches of Harlyn and Kynance while the bustling seaside town of St Ives has plenty of restaurants, bars and galleries to peruse.
6. Devon
The miles upon miles of coastal walks and sweeping rural landscape makes Devon an especially attractive choice for hikers. One of the most popular activities is traversing The English Riviera, a 22-mile stretch of exceptional South Devon coastline peppered with harbour towns (including Torquay, Paignton and Brixham), rugged bays and quaint villages. For something wilder, there’s the Jurassic Coast (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), overflowing with fossils and alien-like rock structures.
Elsewhere in the UK
In light of COVID-19, it’s best to check with regional visitor centres before travelling to the following areas.
Wales
7. Snowdonia
Glacial landforms, steep river gorges and powerful waterfalls grace Snowdonia, a region in northwest Wales that’s concentrated around the Snowdonia National Park.
People flock from all over to enjoy the area’s spectacular beauty, and there’s a smorgasbord of activities on offer including mountain biking, cave exploring, sailing and fishing. For those adverse to heights and water, roam the mighty oak, ash and hazel woodlands by horseback instead.
Thanks to the Snowdon Mountain Railway, this is also a very special place for train watchers. Nearly 12 million people have taken a trip to Snowdon’s summit on the famous locomotives since 1896.
Scotland
8. Edinburgh
Scotland’s capital is one of the most memorable cities in Europe, its charm accentuated by crofts, castles and winding cobbled streets. There are two distinct parts – the Old Town and New Town.
The Old Town is the city’s historic heart, home to Edinburgh Castle. The New Town, equally as impressive, enchants with cocktail bars, restaurants and a fabulous nightlife scene.
Wherever you decide to stay, you’re never far from cultural celebrations. There are galleries, museums, castles, theatre performances and, of course, plenty of whisky pubs. Festivals are another highlight, though the famous Edinburgh Fringe has been postponed until 2021.
Northern Ireland
9. County Antrim
County Antrim possesses the kind of scenery you read about in fairy-tales. The Glens are especially striking, comprising nine long and gently sloping valleys radiating from the Antrim Plateau to the coast.
They each offer a wildly different adventure. One minute, you’re standing under waterfalls and trailing a sheer plunging gorge, the next you’re swept up in a flurry of music, dance and craic.
Then, there’s the Giant’s Causeway (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), flanked by the North Atlantic Ocean and startling cliffs. Steeped in history, this wild and often moody land fascinates tourists with stories of mythical giants and gruesome battles.
East Midlands
10. Derbyshire
We couldn’t write an article on the best UK staycations without a mention of My Car Credit’s own location, Derbyshire! We’re lucky to sit right on the borders of the beautiful Peak District, situated at the southern end of the Pennines. Enjoy jaw-dropping views across rolling hills and expansive valleys surrounded by impressive rock formations. The Peaks are a hidden gem that often get overlooked.
As well as enjoying the countryside, the Peak District boasts many quaint villages including Buxton and Matlock Bath, Castleton (with its show caves), and Bakewell, the national park’s only town (don’t forget to pick up a proper Bakewell Tart). There is also Chatsworth House, which is well worth a visit. They often put on events, from country shows to an international horse trials.
Finally, be sure to stop by Chesterfield’s ‘Crooked Spire’, which folklore suggests the Devil is responsible for twisting!

Throughout the COVID-19 outbreak, My Car Credit has balanced the needs of our customers with the safety of our staff. Remote working has allowed us to continue providing a service to customers, without putting our staff at risk.
However, with lockdown measures now being gradually lifted, we’re delighted to say that we have now been able to welcome some of our car credit advisers back to the office. Rest assured, we’ve done a full risk assessment, with a range of measures in place to keep everyone safe.
Social distancing
One of the most important measures to slow the spread of the virus is social distancing. While the Government has amended the two-metre rule to allow more people to return to work, two metres is still the safest distance to keep between people wherever possible.
We’ve taken all reasonable steps to maintain a two-metre distance throughout our workplace. Where that’s not possible, we’ve made sure there are other measures in place to manage the risk of transmission. Our staff will also be encouraged to make meetings virtual, so there won’t be any unnecessary face-to-face interactions despite being back in the office.
Capacity
To facilitate social distancing, we’ve also considered the amount of people in the office and its different areas. While most of our team will be returning to the office, some will be based remotely – which will help us keep more space between office-based team members.
Additionally, there will be a maximum capacity displayed for each room, depending on its size. We’ve also recommended that meeting rooms are only used if essential.
Hygiene
With the virus potentially being able to survive on surfaces for several days, hygiene is critical when it comes to slowing the spread of COVID-19. My Car Credit has introduced strict and methodical cleaning and hygiene procedures across our workplace. That includes instructions for regular and thorough hand-washing, as well as cleaning desks and workspaces.
Awareness
Most importantly, we’ve made all staff aware of the changes and new guidelines. Our risk assessment has been sent to all staff returning to the office, and we’ve produced a comprehensive collection of posters which will be displayed throughout the office.
Long copy posters will be used in rooms with high dwell time, allowing staff to read through them. But we also have short copy posters for places with lower dwell time like corridors, so staff can read them at a glance. These are supported with maximum room capacity posters displayed in kitchens and other communal areas.
Finally, we’re promoting a cooperative and collaborative culture. Staff will be encouraged to say if something isn’t okay – if someone isn’t sticking to the guidelines, for instance.
Feedback from our staff
“I think the company has done everything they possible could to keep us safe in the environment we work in. It’s so nice to see physical faces instead of seeing them over a computer screen and working in general is far less stressful as we have all the tools we need to get the job done.” Georgia
“I’m ecstatic to be back! It’s nice to get to some form of normality. The company have made me feel safe and secure and have done an excellent job. Hats off to the team who came in to sort the offices out!” Callie
“I think the measures the company have put in place are really great. It keeps me and my work colleagues safe and that’s all we can ask during these times.” Andy
We’re here to help
Above all else, our staff are happy to be back in the office as that means they can help our customers to the best of their ability. If you want to find out more about car finance or get approved, don’t hesitate to calculate car finance and make an application or contact our team on 01246 458 810 or enquiries@mycarcredit.co.uk.

If you like nothing better than the open road unfurling in front of you, the lack of driving time imposed by lockdown might be driving you up the wall. What’s the next best thing to getting behind the wheel? Watching others do so, of course! Fortunately, there is no shortage of car TV shows on Freeview, Netflix, Amazon Prime or YouTube right now. Here are a handful of the best car shows to choose from to keep your brain in gear and your engine ticking over until the lockdown restrictions are lifted.
1. Top Gear
The quintessential car show, Top Gear is still just as entertaining to watch as it ever was. BBC iPlayer has all of the more recent episodes of the show, helmed by the trio of Paddy McGuinness, Freddie Flintoff and Chris Harris, but if you’re craving a fix of the classic combination of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and Richard May, head over to Netflix. The streaming service has 17 seasons of the stuff, including several with the lesser spotted Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc.
2. The Grand Tour
While Clarkson, Hammond and May might have left Top Gear behind, they certainly didn’t forego their penchant for all things automotive altogether. Instead, they’ve simply migrated to Amazon Prime, where four seasons of their new show The Grand Tour are waiting to be gobbled up. The series might be a more Americanised version of the Top Gear that we’ve all come to know and love, but there are still plenty of laugh-out-loud moments to keep those engines revving.
3. Fastest Car
Staying across the pond in the USA, Netflix have come up with their own original take on the traditional car TV show with Fastest Car. In it, gearheads take a run-of-the-mill “sleeper” car and modify it to their hearts’ content. Then, they put their handiwork to the test by racing their souped-up specimen against one of the most exotic supercars in the world over the course of a quarter mile drag race. Street cred and bragging rights are very much on the line.
4. Drive to Survive
Another Netflix show, this exclusive documentary takes a peek behind the curtain of Formula One, making it ideal for any auto aficionados who are missing their Grand Prix fix. With two seasons available, the series covers the daily lives and stresses faced by F1 drivers, owners and managers throughout the 2018 and 2019 World Championship events. With unparalleled access to those living and breathing the sport, it’s perfect for anyone who likes to live lockdown in the fast lane.
5. Red Bull Soapbox Race
While this last show may be stretching the definition of car somewhat, it’s certainly a vehicle for entertainment (excuse the pun). Basically the equivalent of Cooper’s Hill Cheese-Rolling and Wake (which takes place annually in Gloucestershire), the competition does not feature motorised cars, but all entrants must come equipped with both steering and braking capabilities. The objective? To make it to the bottom of a very steep incline in as short a time as possible. Hilarious results are all but guaranteed.
Take the drama out of car finance
While we can’t keep you entertained through the lockdown like the shows above, My Car Credit can help in your search for a new motor. We provide flexible car credit with a fast, simple application process that doesn’t rule anyone out.
